I once had the pleasure of knowing
A kind and gentle soul
He’d crack a joke with you
His humour was so droll
You’d see him with his cowboy hat
He’d stand there tall and proud
One look from his wife Pat
He knew what was allowed
He’d swing and sway upon that stage
And sing a word or four
Put on some more music for
Line dancers on the floor
A weakness that he had
One weakness he did savour
A packet of Walkers crisps
Smoky bacon flavour
He’d stand upon that stage
His toes tapped to the beat
Watching all the line dancers
Swinging and kicking their feet
Once he stood upon that stage
And the music did begin
You could be assured of one good thing
A smile or bloody big grin
His needs were very simple
His wants were very few
What mattered most of all to him
What mattered most was you.
